Lent: Forgive

amywink March 4th, 2018

We do not forgive
ourselves our ages,
at those remembered
and rehearsed mistakes,
who we may have been
at thirteen,
or twenty-two,
or thirty-six,
and what we did
as consequence
of being then,
with only the
little knowledge
we held.

With that smallest
piece of information
we understood,
we decided
whatever we determined
wrong so much later
in our lives.

We are not kind to
those selves we were,
or others we have known,
until we learn
truly to forgive,
and in the grace of
that forgiveness,
accept the certainty,
the fragile elegance,
of our human being.
