Bad Drive, Not So Bad

amywink August 27th, 2012

I really like having the Garmin 205 Bike computer for my driving lessons because I can really get perspective on my drive once I take a look at the maps. What felt like the suckiest drive ever on Saturday didn’t look too bad from the satellite’s perspective.

As a whole, the drive doesn’t have that many crazy shapes and wiggly lines. We didn’t actually wander all over the map, we just had a few wobblies here and there. This is pretty helpful for a person who can lean a shade toward insanely perfectionistic about her driving because while things aren’t perfect, they’re also not that far from pretty decent. And it’s important to not let perfect be the enemy of good.

I actually had some good circles at the west end of the dressage field:
Much better than I expected to see–though I owe Francine some cones for crunching over hers to get these circles so nice.

But of course, it also does show some of the….not so perfect circles:

Probably crunched some cones getting these circles so horribly wrong too.

But things are going well enough to seriously consider showing Blessing at the upcoming HOTMHC Fun Show in September. Barring unforeseen circumstances, we’ll be making a go in the carriage classes, maybe an in hand class or two just to prep her. We shall see.

Lily, Social Butterfly

amywink August 27th, 2012

This weekend was quite the adventure for Lily as she had her first trip to Taipan Station in a long while. This Sunday, we headed down and she finally got to meet Will. In the summer heat, he’s been off in the shade of the deep brush and sometimes not even visible. Of course, I have been ignoring him unjustly since my time has been consumed with his half-sister, Blessing. But things are calming down as we approach the start of the fall semester and I can get back to a much more regular schedule of visiting–and I hope riding/driving, etc. This Sunday, Will was upfront and right by the road so we took the time to hop out and get to know each other.

Lily, though she has met PLENTY of horses at Francine’s, was Not Too Sure *loose* horses were safe at all and she thought she needed to give him a lot of woofing as a warning to be a little cautious with her.

He seemed amused and remained calm:

Don’t they look good together? It’s like I chose the breed for how she’d match the horses–which I certainly did not, though it is an very nice bonus. Should make quite the picture when I get the pair and the carriage dog all dressed up together.

She also go to meet Windy, Lisa’s mare.

Then we headed up to the house to meet the pack of Taipan Station. Not every dog came close but Rufus and Chloe (there are 3 others) came to check her out:

Then, we faced the biggest challenge of the morning:

Cookie. Jack Russell Terrorist.

Lily plied her charms and we *did* get a little further into Cookie’s circle but it’s going to take a lot of time, treats, and patience to get Cookie to be comfortable with Lily….not for lack of Lily’s efforts!!

And really, Cookie can’t help it. It’s her nature….we’ll get there one day.

For All Lily’s Fans at Purina’s Design Department And Tidy Cats

amywink August 24th, 2012

This week, Lily went viral at Purina and Tidy Cats (isn’t the Internet interesting?). So, for Jacob and Joshua** (sorry for the wrong names earlier! The sudden heady nature of fame has affected my memory) and everyone else who enjoyed her yesterday, I thought I’d put together her rave review of the New Tidy Cat Easy Pour Jug.

1) The new jug makes a WONDERFUL sound…a kind of babonk-whump when it lands. It’s beyond exciting.

2) That side handle is SO convenient!!

3) It FLOATS!!!

4) BOTH handles are great for grabbing in a variety of situations.

5) It turns her into Lily Lightening Bolt

6) But it's also good for more sedate situations, when a body needs a little rest.

7) It’s Portable!!

8) It helps her bond with her kitty buddies as we all work to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
